Temperature during leak tests

In an air leak test, compressed air is used to perform the test. When performing the test, the room or object under test is sealed and pressure is built up in the system. It is then checked that the pressure in the system remains constant. If the pressure drops, it may indicate a leak in the system.

Temperature is important in this test because the density of air depends on temperature. This means that when the temperature changes, the density of air in the system also changes. For example, if the temperature increases, the density of the air will decrease and the pressure in the system will drop, even if there is no leak.

To obtain accurate results in an air pressure leakage test, it is therefore important to keep the temperature constant during the test and take this factor into account when interpreting the test results.

Fortest has the option of connecting a separate temperature sensor to the leak testers to perform an even more accurate leak test.

Technology

The sensor measures the temperature of the workpiece under test by detecting the infrared energy emitted by the surface under test. The ambient temperature is calculated from the temperature of the metal surface of the sensor head.

Lektester

Application

Measurement of the object temperature of the through sensor or measurement of the ambient temperature at which the workpiece is tested. Compensation of the pressure generated by the temperature of the tested workpiece on the final pressure measurement. The sensor allows setting a low level and a high level of temperature above which an alarm signal sounds.

Technical features

One of the smallest existing infrared sensors with an optical resolution of 22:1.
Accurate temperature measurement without direct contact with the test price.
Measurement of the ambient temperature at which the part is tested.
Robust and usable without a cooling system up to an ambient temperature of 180°C Uses an RS232 interface for connection to the instrument.
Can be used for metallic and non-metallic surfaces.
Operates with relative humidity from 10 to 95% (non-condensing).
Weight: 40 g the sensor head, 420 g the sensor body (the electronics).
Resistant to 3 G of vibration (11-200 Hz) per axis.
Withstands a shock of 50 G (11 ms) per
The head can withstand a pressure of 8 bar.

Interfacing with leak tester

The external temperature sensor is connected to the serial port COM2 of the instrument. The connection completely occupies the port and it is not possible to use twin cables to connect printers or barcode readers, for example.

Both the ambient temperature and the temperature indicated by the sensor are read cyclically at a frequency of one second.

The sensor can be used with the following leakage testers:

T8990 – ABSOLUTE DECAY STANDARD LEVEL LEAK TESTER
T8090 – DUAL ABSOLUTE STANDARD LEVEL LEAK TESTER
T8060 – DIFFERENTIAL STANDARD LEVEL LEAK TESTER
