Regulations for electrical safety testing of luminaires are defined in the standard EN60598-1.
It is important to ensure that your lighting products meet the safety standards set by the EN60598-1 standard. By performing the safety tests below, you can ensure that your products are safe for use and comply with the standards
Below is a brief overview of the desired test methods described in this standard.
We integrate the tests listed in EN60598-1 into the following testers:
– Safety tester Handheld
– Safety tester GLP1-g
– Safety tester GLP2-Basic
– Safety tester GLP2-ce
PROTECTION PIPE MEASUREMENT – PE
The protective conductor test is applied to Class I devices and it checks whether the PE resistance is below the established limit.
The test is carried out to check that, in the event of a fault, the fault current is correctly dissipated to earth.
INSULATION RESISTANCE MEASUREMENT – ISO
Insulation resistance measurement can be performed on both class I and class II devices. It checks with a DC voltage of 500V whether the ohmic insulation resistance is above the established standards.
Testing can be used to determine whether leakage currents are occurring. If the insulation resistance is too low, it can result in a high touch voltage of the device. When touching these metal parts, if there is a fault in the fixture, the touch current will flow through the person to earth.
FUNCTIONAL TEST – FCT
The functional test checks whether the lamp is functioning properly.
This usually involves measuring the current drawn from the mains. For safety reasons, we supply our tester with an isolation transformer as standard.
HIGH VOLTAGE TEST – AC
With the breakdown resistance measurement, we check the luminaire for weak spots and whether the insulation can withstand an overvoltage.
Note: If one performs 100% insulation resistance measurement, it is not necessary to perform a high voltage AC test on the luminaires. It may be necessary to carry out an HV-AC test after a number of products, in consultation with the relevant inspection authorities.
