Test cabin with light curtain
Test cabin with three closed walls and a light curtain at the front. You load and unload without a door.
When do you choose a light curtain?
With a cabin door, you open and close the door for every test object. The PKL has an open front, guarded by a safety light curtain. You put the test object down, step back and the test can start. That saves time when you test many objects in a row, for example motors or luminaires in production.
How does it work?
The back and side walls are made of impact-resistant, transparent plastic, so you can still see the test object. The front has the light curtain (Cat. 4, smallest detection 14 mm) with a certified evaluation module. If anything passes through the curtain during the test, the tester switches off the voltage and stops moving parts.
What to watch out for
A light curtain doesn’t physically stop anyone. So the distance between the curtain and the test object must be large enough for the object to be de-energised and at a standstill before anyone can reach it. With a motor that has a free shaft end, the run-down time counts. A light curtain also won’t always see thin measuring leads running outside, which could carry voltage out of the cabin. That is why the cables to the tester are usually fixed at the back. IONIO works out the safety distance and the layout with you.

Applications
- Functional and safety tests on electric motors
- End-of-line tests on luminaires and household appliances
- Test stations where you change many objects per hour
Combination with a tester
The light curtain connects to the tester’s safety circuit, for example the GLP2-Modular or the GLP3 test system. IONIO supplies the complete test setup, including contacting and commissioning.
Need a different size?
Schleich also builds test stations with light curtains on three sides, and ESD versions (extra charge). Have a look at the custom-made test cage or contact us. CAD data is available on request.
