Test methods

Connection and test sequence

The MTC2-12KV has 4 test leads (L1, L2, L3 and star) and a frame connection. This lets you test single-phase and three-phase stators. For a three-phase stator the test is usually done in four steps:

• Star or delta connection: 1. L1 – L2 | 2. L1 – L3 | 3. L2 – L3 | 4. L1 – L2 – L3 (comparison between phases)
• Via the star point: 1. L1 – star | 2. L2 – star | 3. L3 – star | 4. L1 – L2 – L3 (comparison between phases)

For every test method the tester automatically switches the test leads to the different windings. You only connect the test cables once for the surge test, the insulation resistance test and the resistance measurement.

Partial discharge measurement (PD)

The PD measurement tests e-machines according to IEC 61934 and IEC 60034-18-41, determining PDIV, PDEV, RPDIV and RPDEV.

When do you rent the MTC2 (12 kV)?

The MTC2 is the most complete tester for offline testing of electric motors, in this version with a surge test up to 12 kV plus PD, insulation and resistance measurement. Testing at this depth belongs to an overhaul or a targeted diagnosis, not to daily maintenance.
