ComBOX for testing lighting fixtures

Connect, test, dim and parameterise luminaires – all through one smart connection box.

The comBOX is an intelligent connection module for fast and repeatable luminaire testing in production or end-of-line control. You comfortably couple the luminaire to your GLP2 tester and test everything in one flow: safety, functionality and communication (such as DALI/DMX/DSI).

Why the comBOX belongs in your test process

LED lighting has matured. Dimming, scenes, colour control (RGB/RGBW) and addressing run via protocols and drivers/ECGs. A simple “on/off” check then says little.

With the comBOX you turn your end-of-line test into a full-fledged production test: fast, consistent and without external PCs or separate adapters.

Key facts

  • Suitable for all types of LED and tube luminaires
  • Dimming – including support for RGB/RGBW applications
  • Parameterise, configure or flash electronic ballasts / drivers (EVG/ECG)
  • Works with a wide range of EVG/ECG manufacturers
  • Read out stored information from EVG/ECG (driver data)
  • Integrated communication interfaces:
    • DALI
    • DSI
    • Analogue (0–10 V)
    • Touch/Push (pulse switch)
    • DMX
    • NFC
    • Casambi
    • and more
  • Supports loop-through up to 7-conductor (depending on model)
  • Optimised for time-efficient production in the lighting industry
  • Variants available with high-voltage test (up to 2.5 kV AC, depending on model)

Plug & play with the GLP2 range

The comBOX is designed as a smart extension of the GLP2 testers. You connect it to the test connector of the GLP2 and the communication works plug & play – so no extra configuration or external PC required. This means you can also easily retrofit the comBOX in an existing test setup later.

What you test with the comBOX

1) Safety tests

  • Protective conductor test (PE) between earth terminal and housing parts
  • Insulation resistance on L1/N/PE or L1/L2/L3/N/PE
  • Insulation resistance between mains terminals and interface terminals
  • High-voltage test AC (e.g. for UL, depending on chosen comBOX variant)
  • High-voltage test DC (e.g. for LED modules, depending on test setup)
  • Leakage current measurement

This way you build a test process that meets common EN/NEN/UL/CSA requirements, with one platform.

2) Functional test

  • Continuity test of wiring – including dim/bus connections
  • Current measurement from 1 mA for realistic checks at low loads
  • Power measurement from 1 W

3) Interface communication & parameterisation

  • Select the bus/protocol directly in the test plan
  • Typically the dim/bus lines are used via DA1/DA2 on the driver/ECG
  • Read and write driver data (e.g. identification/parameters depending on driver and protocol)
  • NFC is possible in combination with GLP2 testers and the appropriate expansion options
  • Optional: connection for external DALI programming equipment (depending on model)

Power supply & connection concept

Depending on your luminaire you need 1-phase, 2-phase or 3-phase supply. The comBOX models offer 5 mains connections for this. The 1-phase test voltage supplied by the tester is distributed internally in the comBOX so you connect quickly and unambiguously in production.

Variants (choose the comBOX that fits your luminaire)

There are several comBOX models with different capabilities (including loop-through, control button/LEDs and high-voltage resistance).

Integration into your production environment

  • Central storage and management of test plans
  • Read out and store serial numbers
  • Integration of barcode/datamatrix scanners
  • Label printing for luminaires and packaging
  • Central storage of test results + statistical analysis
  • ERP/MES connections (bills of materials, confirmation of inspection results)

Advice: choose the right model in 10 minutes

Which comBOX you need depends mainly on:

  • 1-phase or 3-phase luminaires
  • with/without loop-through (and how many conductors)
  • with/without HV test in your process
  • which interface you use (DALI/DMX/DSI/analogue/NFC/Casambi)
